COVID-19: SAFE REOPENING

I will be reopening the studio on August 1st.  Over the next 3-4 weeks I will be taking back a limited number of students (2-3 students a day).  This doesn’t include the current Zoom lessons that will continue to run during this time.

If you wish to book for a studio lesson, please contact me so I can add you to the list.  You may have to wait to attend lessons, but I will hold your space and inform you when ready.

The studio has changed a lot since I stopped tuition in March.  This has been a very important planning process which started soon after lockdown.

Here is a detailed run through of how I plan to conduct future lessons.

Cleaning and setting up

I will be wiping down surfaces using medical grade disinfectant between lessons.  I will also set up the drums for each student prior to the lesson.  To do this I will need a measurement from the student’s foot to the top of their knee.

WC

The toilet will still be available for students if needed.  There are now paper hand towels and a bin under the sink to dispose of them (please don’t flush them down the toilet.)  As well as soap there’s also hand sanitiser and anti-bacterial wipes for touched surfaces (bin for these as well please).

On Arrival

Before you enter the studio there is now a touch free hand sanitiser;  All students must use this before entering the studio.

In the waiting room the coffee machine has been removed along with the fabric covered chairs;  These have been replaced with new chairs that can be cleaned thoroughly.  There are no magazines in the studio, you are welcome to use the studio WiFi.  If possible, I would appreciate only the student to enter and wait in the studio.

During the lesson

There is now a safety screen separating the sound isolation booth into two sections, so I can teach students while complying with social distancing rules.

I will be asking students to make sure they bring their folders and sticks (if you don’t have sticks you can buy some from the studio. I can arrange to have them placed where you can access them).  I won’t be able to lend drumsticks for the foreseeable future.

Any new work covered in the lesson can either be sent as a PDF file to an email or can be printed off in the studio.  I will ask the student to collect his or her sheets from the print tray.

End of lesson

I will be accepting online payments and cash.  I will give instructions regarding online payments prior to the lesson so the payment can be made before.  If you want to continue to pay cash, then please try to have the correct amount.  I will have pre-counted change envelopes just in case.

IF YOU ARE UNWELL OR HAVE ANY COVID SYMPTOMS PLEASE CONTACT ME TO CANCEL.

I WILL ALLOW ONE CANCELATION DUE TO SICKNESS WITHOUT 24 HOURS NOTICE.  ANY LESSONS CANCELLED AFTER THAT WITHOUT 24 HOURS NOTICE WILL BE CHARGED AT THE FULL RATE.

Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

Stay safe.

Studio Lessons restarting.

I’m currently in the process of making the studio Covid safe in order to trial  lessons at the end of this month (July).

These will be face to face lessons but will comply with social distancing rules.

Sadly it won’t be possible to bring all clients back at once - when the risk of covid lowers I will increase the capacity.

I have several clients participating in online lessons that will continue during this period (details are available below).

I will be updating this page regularly with more details.

COVID-19 UPDATE - ONLINE

Online lessons take place:  Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I just wanted to update everyone on what’s happening in the regards to drumming lessons.  I’ve had a few clients asking if I’m still teaching online and how lessons are conducted.  So here are some details:

I’m running online video based lessons from the studio using Zoom (or FaceTime).  Currently the lessons are mainly during the daytime.

All work sheets are sent to students by email or text.  They can print or display these on a phone or tablet.  I have my drum set in view to demonstrate anything that students are struggling with (I also send specific video tutorials if needed).

I also set assignments for students to record and send to me.  That way I can check work and progress in general as well as completing tasks set.  Grade work is still continuing through the lessons and the relevant tests can all be conducted during the online lessons.

This is a good way of moving forward for students and will mean that when we resume, there shouldn’t be a lapse in work or enthusiasm.

COVID-19 UPDATE - ONLINE

I have decided to suspend all face to face lessons from 23rd March until further notice, in order to protect our community from any further spread of the virus.  Therefore, the studio will no longer be accessible to clients.

I will however be continuing online as mentioned in my previous post.  If you have a drum set, internet connection and wish to book an online lesson then please message me ASAP.

Unfortunately for some of my clients this means a break in their lessons for the foreseeable future until normality resumes.

Stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.

COVID-19 UPDATE

The government have now closed the schools for the foreseeable future - however I will be still operating for people who are healthy without any symptoms.

I’m also in the process of setting up online lessons through Zoom for students with a drum set and internet connection.  I will keep you updated on this over the next week.

Stay safe, keep in touch.

Navigating COVID-19 at JPF drum tuition

At this moment in time the government guidelines implement that schools stay open so for now I will remain open for business as usual.

As we all now know this virus could be with us for sometime and I want to reassure clients attending the studio of the precautionary measures that have been taken to stop the spread and to halt cross contamination.

I have increased cleaning in the studio using anti bacterial sprays and wipes on shared equipment.  This includes wiping sticks and stool saddles down at the start of each lesson.

I’ve decided to remove magazines from the studio in order to stop cross contamination but have included the studio WiFi code on the notice board so people can pass the time on their own phone, tablet or laptop.

In the toilet there is now a pile of freshly folded towels on the window sill. After washing your hands  with soap and water - place the towel in the bucket, these towels will be collected and placed in a hot wash after lessons.

It’s very important for us all to take care of ourselves and each other during this time - if anyone starts to feel unwell in your household (a high temperature and/or a new persistent cough) you must follow the Government Guidelines for household-self isolation

Please let me know as soon as possible if you are not planning to attend lessons, and to the best of your endeavours please stick to my 24 hour notice policy.

Stay healthy. Keep in touch.

John
